The Greater Des Moines Partnership, the economic development organization serving central Iowa, is hosting the Get Your Art On Photo Contest in conjunction with the Des Moines Arts Festival.
We invite you to submit photographs for this contest starting April 1. Get Your Art On Photo Contest asks metro area residents to show their personal expression and interpretation of art in the community through the lens of a camera. The photographs are to show individual expressions of art and community in the metro area.
The contest will have three categories:
Professional – Any person entering the contest who has or currently earns an income from photography, photographic direction or teaching photographic principles and practices is defined as a professional.
Student – Any person entering the contest who is currently enrolled in full-time courses at a high school or college level is considered to be a student.
Amateur – Any person who is not a professional or a student by our definitions, is considered to be an amateur.
Photos may be submitted Thursday, April 1 until midnight on Friday, May 14. Starting Monday, May 17, submitted photos that meet the criteria outlined in the official rules will be posted online in a virtual gallery for public voting.
Online voting will be open from Monday, May 17 until midnight on Friday, May 28. The public will vote for the top three in each category with nine final photos to be chosen as the winners of the Get Your Art On Photo Contest.
The winning photographs will be displayed at the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 25 – 27. Winners will be announced at an artist reception that will be held for all contest entrants on Thursday, June 24 at the University of Iowa John & Mary Pappajohn Education Center on the Arts Festival grounds.
Following the Arts Festival, the winning photographs will be displayed at the Greater Des Moines Partnership office.
